Omega-3 for kids
Omega-3 is a term that is used to refer to a number of fatty acids that play an important role in health. Two specific Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) are thought to be very important in helping a babies brain and eyes to develop. But it's thought that the benefits of these nutrients might go even further.
A few studies have been conducted into the positive effects of Omega-3 on concentration and learning ability in primary school children.
DHA and EPA Omega-3 fatty acids are found naturally in fish oils and good food sources include the following fish:
- salmon
- trout
- mackerel
- sardines
- pilchards
- herring
- kippers
- whitebait
- fresh tuna
Other forms of Omega-3's are also present in linseed and rapeseed oils and in flaxseeds.
Getting kids to eat anything with a fishy smell or flavour can be tough to say the least. That's why some parents are now giving their kids an Omega-3 supplement like Sanatogen OmegaVits so they don't miss out on the potential benefits of Omega-3, however much they hate fish!
