I'm concerned that Sanatogen ProNatal Plus Omega-3 contains 700mcg of folic acid when the government recommendation is 400mcg.
As you're aware, higher levels of folic acid can be beneficial in the early stages of pregnancy. The Department of Health recommends that you take a 400mcg folic acid supplement from the time you stop using contraception until the twelfth week of pregnancy to ensure the healthy development of your baby's neural tube. Folic acid is also necessary for the formation of your own red blood cells and cell division.
Sanatogen ProNatal Plus Omega-3 contains 700mcg of folic acid. It's been available on the European market for approximately 13 years. The extra 300ug includes the amount the government recommends a pregnant women should obtain from her food.
